Smokemont Campground July 2016

In 1976 my parents purchased a 17′ travel trailer after being invited to go camping with several families from our church. The first campground we visited was Smokemont Campground in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and from that point we were hooked on camping. After growing up camping at Smokemont for all those years, it is still my favorite place to camp.

Smokemont campground is located five miles north of Cherokee on US 441, just inside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Smokemont Campground is situated along side the Oconaluftee River. Smokemont offers group camping and 138 campsites for primitive camping with no water, power, or sewer hookups.

Smokemont Riding Stable is adjacent to the campground. They offer trail rides for ages five years and up and they welcome groups. They have a one hour, two and a half hour, and a four hour ride. Also available for any age are wagon rides. Call 828-497-2373 for rates and availability.
